Workgroup Database working with Appserver

Hi All,

One of our customers bought a 6-User Workgroup Database (Named User) V11. We would like this customer to migrate into a web environment.

Will the existing workgroup database work in a web environment together with an Application Server that is licensed using the Access Agent model?

Kind regards

What will run and what is licensed are very different questions.

Technically the components will work together.

The proper license is not a technical matter -- that depends on who your users are and some of the details about how they interact with your application. If they can be identified by name then it might be perfectly reasonable to license by "named user". But depending on the number of them and the type of access that they need it may also be perfectly sensible (and perhaps less expensive) to go with "access agent".

Noted Tom and many thanks.

All the best

Technically there is no restriction which would enforce the number of licenses that you've bought. The only limit is the total number of connections that comes with the workgroup database ( which is IIRC 63 ) whereas the enterprise database theoretically has no such limit ( you might still be limited by the capabilities of your machine and your configuration - startup parameters ). Other than that the workgroup database suffers from much less options to optimize performance and can only use 1 CPU.
