Windows Emergency

Hello Everyone,

I have a problem with Windows 2000 that has been bothering me. A couple of days ago my apartment was broken into and my laptop computer (among other items) was stolen. I had it set up where when you log in, you are forced to log in. However, I always used my administrator account and a password I knew. My question is this. After a number of failed log in attempts, will the administrator account lock and prevent the person(s) who stole my computer from seeing my data??? I know that you can set up just a regular user account and control number of log in attempts and account lock settings, but I just didn't know if the same occurred with the Administrator account by default or if it was even possible with the administrator account.

Also, even if they can't log in by typing in a password, would they be able to crack security and get to my data???

Thanks for your help...

Hi,

a normal thief would not know on how to mess with windows 2000. And if he sells it to someone they would normally format it and install things from scratch.

But then if a person who knows about computers and want to see whats in the hard-disk buys it, then they can get into it. Not by breaking the password. But by other ways. Its always good to put a bios password on laptops specifically for the same reason.

If you had your a/c info or banking info, just keep an eye on those a/c's or lock those a/c for a while.

hope that helps,
