Unable to Change Unit Cost

Hello,

Using Symix 4.1, Progress 8.3b.

I believe I have seen a post about this and corrected this problem before
but I can't seem to find it now.

For some reason I am unable to change the "Material Cost" in the Unit Cost
column on the Item Master - Cost Maintenance screen. When I hit E-U it just
skips over to the Purchased Current Unit Cost column. The reason I want to
change the Material Cost under Unit cost is because it was incorrectly
entered. It seems like in some items that column is able to be changed
while in other items it isn't. What am I missing here?

TIA,
Nick P.

Depending on your costing method. The unit cost is normally the last cost
you paid for an item. If you purchase the item then the cost will come in at
the next time you receive the item. If you are using standard costing you
will have to roll the item cost up for that item. Hope this helps.

We had the same problem in SyteLine 3.5x. If I remember correctly, the
"problem" items' Source was flagged as Manufactured - we could update the
Purchased items. We changed the items to Purchased, changed the cost, then
changed them back to Manufactured. A utility (?) was run each time we
change the Source option.

The Cost Type and Cost Method may have played a roll in it too, I don't
remember.

In order for this to happen, make sure the Parameter to Update Current Cost
to "Last" is set under Parameters - Purchasing - Purchasing Parameters.

Answers to multiple tips:
I've tried to change the item to purchased or manufactured but it still
wouldn't let me change the Unit cost. The purchasing parameter is set to
last and the item is not lot tracked.

Since the cost method is FIFO, I'm starting to wonder if the request to
change the unit cost from the data enterer was a bit hasty. I'll have to
interrogate her some more.

Although, I still would be interested in seeing if there is a way to force a
material cost change.

Thanks,
Nick P.

Go look at the FIFO stack for the item and you can see what is there and
what has to be used to get to the current unit cost. There is a utility that
can be used to adjust the FIFO stack. I really don't think you want to
change the unit cost until you use the other items that are in there. Quick
way to do it is to do a misc-issue of all items then a misc-receipt for the
amount you want in the unit cost. That way the audit trail will no be lost.
If you force a unit cost then you will loose that trail. This is all a guess
that you have a qty of the item still in inventroy.
