Read-Only User

Can you set up a user to have strictly read-only priviledges for the
screens? I'm using MFG/PRO 86.E. So, for example, the user could have
access to Sales Order Maintenance (7.1.1), but only in a readable capacity.

Mike,

No, you can't -- at least, not without customizing all the code. Your best
bet is to remove access to the update programs.

Sorry, but that's the answer.

Mike,

Why do they need access to the maintenance screens to view data ? All data available on a maintenance screen can be seen on reports or inquiries, so why don't you give them only access rights to these menu items ?

greetings,
Francis

I was at a client once and they wanted all the information that was on the
maintenance screens (SO, PO) so we created screens that gave them that
information. I don't think you can make a screen read-only.

You can easily provide this kind of access by utilizing the QAD B2B web-
based front end to MFG/PRO. You can also get much better and more flexible
security at the same time. You can determine not only what fields someone
can see, but also what records. (Salesman sees only HIS/HER customers,
orders, etc.) Take a look at the functionality provided at our website
at http://www.issgroup.net and see if that would provide your needs. Also,
you can utilize the new QAD NetUI if you can move to V9.0 and above.
