Hi,

I am mfg/pro client - I can see the there are Progress 4GL 9.1 and Progress OpenEdge. Which product do I need for mfg/pro eB2 SP9? What are differences on these product line?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Open Edge is in fact Progress 10.
It however has a lot of new functions, so they renamed it.

>> Sorry that is incorrect. Progress Software Corporation is getting larger and larger. PSC have acquired a lot of small companies, and integrated the organisations, improving the Progress product. Example would be the Data Direct / Dynamics integration. The Progress product joining the Eclipse foundation allowing opensource (IDE). Micro$oft have refused to join Eclipse, it would mean the sharing of source to improve the product.
Progress Software Corporation have merged entities creating Progress OpenEdge.

Yes "The Progress Company" is making a lot of acquisitions. But OpenEdge is nothing more than a re-branding of the existing "Progress" product line. It has all of the same bits and pieces -- sometimes with a slightly different spin but it's all the same stuff and it does just what it has always done. Plus what you would expect in the "new" department that goes along with a major new release.

All of the acquired companies are still operating as themselves -- none of them have been merged into the OpenEdge product. Sonic is still Sonic, Data Direct is still Data Direct, Apama is still Apama and so on and so forth... Ok, ObjectStore got sort of renamed to "Real Time Division" but the previous owner had pretty well screwed up the "ObjectStore" name before PSC bought them so that doesn't really count. And yes, some of the acquistions fail and go away and yes, sometimes bits and pieces cross over between companies. And occasionally a phoenix rises from the ashes somewhere. But there is no wholesale blending of products going on.
At least not in the short term. We'll just have to wait and see if there's a master strategy in the long term.

Sounds like a job that should command a minimum of $175/hour.

If you're offering something like that, or better, I'm sure you'll get lots of response.

Sorry deleted the post you replied to.... (was a job posting in the wrong forum without being a ProgressTalk.com Job Poster)

Casper.
