merged with another organization ???
and which one would that be, someone called openedge
probably just some sort of logo change
like moving from dlc to progress, in version 6, i think
and re-organization within the company in recent years
with the addition of few more operation units to the company
some acquisitions, none of them merges, of smaller companies and startups
and some of it from their own development
progress todate is composed of 4 operation units
openedge, database, tools, language etc. we know of
progress real-time, event streaming division
sonic, esb / soa division
data direct, data connectivity division e.g. drivers etc.
i also wouldn't toss the phrase leadership so freely
though progress is a leader in the embedded database market
it seems they been busy catching up not leading for along time now
which hasn't always been the case
on the other hand progress other operation units
are breaking grounds and keep showing up everywhere
even alongside the big players like ibm, microsoft, oracle etc.
e.g. sonic which apparently is the leader and founder
of the modern esb and usually the first name that comes up with the subject
i've read oracle are trying to catch up with progress real-time
with the acquisition of times-ten
data directs xquery, xml querying language etc.
the company has recruited alot of new faces to their leadership team
which is always a good sign
some of the major additions in oe10 are
type ii storage areas, prodataset for integration with the .net framework
substantial improvements to the sql engine etc.
and 10.1 coming this fall, finally object oriented programming,
database built-in auditing, self-tuning features etc.
