OpenEdge 10 ?

Someone can explain me the principal difference between an openEdge 10version of progress and a classic V9.1D for example.
It's confused for me and i want to know more about it. In my companythere is no project to change progress version soon, and i don't wantto be disconnected from the new possibilities of progress.

Thanks in advance

O E 10

Greetings,

Progress OpenEdge 10 is the latest from Progress. It is not just another hashed out version, there are more language advancements from the Version 9 ADM2 release. Progress Software being the leader that it is has merged with another organisation, and is now Progress OpenEdge. This is an excellent move, bringing more closely together the DataDynamics product and links.
Progress OpenEdge is the way forward, it is taking advantage of the strong foundations laid by Progress Software Corporation.
Regards.

merged with another organization ???
and which one would that be, someone called openedge

probably just some sort of logo change
like moving from dlc to progress, in version 6, i think

and re-organization within the company in recent years
with the addition of few more operation units to the company

some acquisitions, none of them merges, of smaller companies and startups
and some of it from their own development

progress todate is composed of 4 operation units

openedge, database, tools, language etc. we know of
progress real-time, event streaming division
sonic, esb / soa division
data direct, data connectivity division e.g. drivers etc.

i also wouldn't toss the phrase leadership so freely
though progress is a leader in the embedded database market

it seems they been busy catching up not leading for along time now
which hasn't always been the case

on the other hand progress other operation units
are breaking grounds and keep showing up everywhere
even alongside the big players like ibm, microsoft, oracle etc.

e.g. sonic which apparently is the leader and founder
of the modern esb and usually the first name that comes up with the subject

i've read oracle are trying to catch up with progress real-time
with the acquisition of times-ten

data directs xquery, xml querying language etc.

the company has recruited alot of new faces to their leadership team
which is always a good sign

some of the major additions in oe10 are
type ii storage areas, prodataset for integration with the .net framework
substantial improvements to the sql engine etc.

and 10.1 coming this fall, finally object oriented programming,
database built-in auditing, self-tuning features etc.

oops, pressed the submit button to soon

i also think that the version number
has alot to do with the market and competitors e.g. oracle 10g

hey cool, if you search for "enterprise service bus"
either on amazon or google print

the first book that comes up is
dave chappell's from sonic software

progress has plans for future releases
for tighter integration with 4gl and the sonic products, it'll be interesting

OpenEdge 10

Quick definitions.
Progress V9 >> Re-write of the ADM so it doesn't fall over, introducing ADM2.
OpenEdge 10 expansion of the progress made with V9, started by V8 + ADM(1) into V9 ADM2.
Merging organisations with OpenEdge. Splitting into 2 entities. Database and 4GL. Database entity improving very much the best database software available. Using data object + prodataset methods.

mpowell,

do you just make this stuff up as you go along ?
seriously, i'm not trying to give anyone a hard time

did you read somewhere and mind posting the link
that progress merged with a company called "openedge" ?

was it published / stated somewhere on psc site
that there are now diff "4gl" and "database" divisions ?

never mind that selling one without the other hardly makes any sense

ofcourse there are probably diff departments like the engine crew but theres always been
and that doesn't make them diff organizations

just don't make things up if you don't know

you're also confusing adm and dynamics role

adm and dynamics are just another option
psc doesn't think you have to build apps with smartobjects and dynamics

infact most apps aren't, again it's just another option

*************************************

Progress HAVE merged organisations, they acquired OpenEdge, and have now merged. The latest release is Progress OpenEdge 10. I AM NOT making it up on-the-fly. I have been to Cheadle to train in it, I also have a development license on my NoteBook and WorkStation.

Re: that there are now diff "4gl" and "database" divisions ?
That much is OBVIOUS, do you follow PRGS at all?

you should call cheadle and ask for your money back
i work in the legal field, you've got this one in the bag

here's a link to the "progress press releases archive" on psc's site
http://investors.progress.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=86919&p=irol-newsArchive

mind showing me the big merge with some company called "openedge"
progress never merged with any company
they've only acquired smaller companies and startups

it's just a new name. i don't know but i'm guessing it's mainly to reflect
the open service oriented architecture

here's a link on "progress software corporation overview" from psc's site
http://www.progress.com/about_us/operating_companies/index.ssp

progress todate is made up of 4 operation units

progress openedge division, the same product we're all familiar with
sonic software, enterprise service bus
progress real-time division, event streaming
data-direct technologies, data connectivity

where are the separate "4gl" and "database" divisions
it doesn't even make any sense

RE:

Who are PSC?? Progress are now PRGS.

RE:
mind showing me the big merge with some company called "openedge"

PRGS acquired the "openedge" organisation. Making the whole entity now Progress OpenEdge, PRGS.
PRGS have "merged" the 2 seperate entities into Progress OpenEdge.
