Hello Guys,
I am new to Progress "world" I've seen couple posts asking for paths to get knowledge on how to administer progress db's and most of the answers where pointing to the same direction either progress training which costs almost 4k or websites that have documentation for very old version.

To be specific i am looking for some kind of training that cost any where between (50$-500$) something affordable . or an actually book that i can buy from amazon as an example.

I am super a noob in the DBA world and would like to pick up the basics the background and what's happening behind the scene, i do have the technical background to understand complex IT topics so don't worry if you have to through something complicated my way.

as a side note all my work will be performed on a Linux RHEL 5 server machine.

I'd appreciate your responds and will be looking forward for your input... and oh btw this is the most neat, organized well designed forums ive ever seen in my life :)

Read the online resources I guess - Progress has one called Progress communities - www.psdn.com, there are a few more including this site.
If you are located in the US, Tom Bascom organizes the best DBA training anywhere for the price - the pug challenge, but the one for this year just finished.

Agreed, the PUG Challenge conferences offer great value and networking opportunity. There will be another one this year in Manchester, UK, in November.

Both White Star Software and BravePoint have training services on offer:

Also I can personally recommend BravePoint's series of books for DBAs as being a great resource:

Prices vary from USD $45 to $140 each; well worth it.

Other suggestions:
Read the daily posts on progresstalk and in PSDN communities.
Get yourself a Progress ID and subscribe to PANS (Progress Alert and Notification Service). You also need the ID to post in the PSDN communities forums.
Acquaint yourself with the Progress public Knowledge Base and search there for the answers to your questions.
Download and read the Progress documentation set for your version, available in PDF or HTML.
Subscribe to the Progress E-mail Group, for $75 per year.

Well, if your request is declined you could still take a few days' holiday and wander over to Manchester and fund the trip yourself. For a few hundred quid it's a good personal investment.

Indeed although the difficulty there is it sends the message to the employers that they can just decline these requests because SoAndSo will just pay to go themselves.

If you're paying for it yourself you should have no qualms about talking to employers who feel differently ;)

Thanks guys,,, Rob thanks for the information i will start here and see where i end at in few months, i also found a senior progress admin here at work that i will be bothering alot in the next few months :)
