Hello all,

I am new to this forum but a Progress Programmer for 4 years. I work for a company today but I am very anxius to start working on my own.

To do that, I believe I need to purchase licensed Progress development tools for database admnistration, Gui and Webspeed development such as ProVision Plus. The only distributor of these products where I live (Europe) is the company I work for. I can not ask them to buy for them.

I have looked over the web to find the products, their price and the procedure to purchase them but with no luck.

Can anybody guide it me to a way to purchase them?
 
Unless Progress has changed their policies in the past four years all you need to do is contact them. You can register your company as a VAR or Software Developer and purchase the product directly from Progress. I may be dating myself but the normal discount was 35% from retail on all purchases. The only requirement to establish a company as a VAR or Software Developer was to purchase a complete set of the development products, Progress 4GL, Database and development license.



Ironically, I am also new to this forum but have the opposite intentions as you. I own the intellectual property rights to several packages developed in Progress and am seeking a way to sell, lease, joint venture etc… these packages versus having them collect dust. These packages are written in character for SCO Unix and have been installed in more than 72 major organizations ranging from Marina’s, Law Firms, Tool and Die to Construction companies.

How can I contact Progress directly when I do not have a Progress representative in my Country, other than the company I work for!! And I do not want them to know that I want my own license to develop software!!!! I have call the PSC and they told me to contact the comapny in my country. I CAN NOT DO THAT !!! Any suggestions?
 
When you contacted Progress did you inquire about purchasing the product or becoming a VAR? If you asked them about being a VAR they would have forwarded you the proper packet of information. If you just inquired about purchasing the product then you received the normal canned answer they provided. Contact Progress Sales and tell them you want to become a VAR and ask for the proper paper work
