How to identify if a cursor event will leave the fill-in??

How to identify whether a cursor-right or cursor-left event will leave the current field and move to the next field in the tab-order? I want to block navigating from one field to another using cursor-right/cursor-left, but still be able to navigate within the field.

On leave of the widget, could you test the last key press and if it's cursor right/left just apply entry to self?

I usually use return no-apply to prohibit leaving a field.
