What do you mean by "impacting" a database?

Usually you either change the database schema via the data dictionary tool directly or you load delta data definitions via the data administration tool.

Depending on the version of Progress/OpenEdge you are running the parts of the second option may be performed while other users are connected against the database or not.

Yes RealHeavyDude im using progress v9.1c maybe the term impact is only for my ERP system, im using syteline 6.0.
