eb2 sp2 on Windows and Upgrade

Good Morning,

I have three questions - can MFG Pro eb2 SP2 run on a windows version of Progress, what is the latest sp for eb2 and what are the benefits up from SP2 ( Looking I can see eb2 up to sp8).

Recently I have become responsible for a site which is running MFG Pro version eb2 SP2 on an old Unix box. ( First time I've seen this version of MFG Pro - its very close to Epicor's old Infoflo system  ).

We have a number of options including upgrading to EA 2009 SE, changing to our corporate standard of SAP (avoid if possible) or simply restart proper QAD support and upgrade eb2 to the latest service pack level.

As the site in question has many operational challanges to overcome first - I'm favouring the last option in the short term whilst we address the other issues. If I do this however, I would really like to move the system away from the Unix box and onto a Windows Platform still running Progress. I did this platform change in a previous life with an Epicor Infoflo system that was running on an Unidata database - is it possible with MFG Pro eb2 ?

Also if I upgrade from sp2 to sp8 ( or whatever the latest sp is ) - are there any major benefits / fixes that I will get ? I ask because our current system - for all its not used to its best potential - has many customisations already.

Thanks in advance for your responses - and apologies if these have been addressed in other threads - I did look but could not see my answers.

Thanks again

Paul

Yes you can change your OS version to Windows. You need avail PROGRESS win32 disks.

I think eb2 is retired ie its unsupported (Verify this)

You seem to sound as if you dont pay QAD support, this could be a issue to avail upgrades unless you pay penalty and come back under.

You can write to me on sales@mss-ie.com for more assistance as we do have exp in assisting customers under similar circumstances.

It would not be a very good idea to switch from Unix chui environment to a Windows chui environment for a service pack update. You would have to install the Georgia Software telnet server on the windows server and update the terminal emulation software for all users, or install Progress client and run in 2 tier client/server mode (The last eB2 I installed was sp10 and patchs available upto sp12).

Your time would be better spent on QAD 2009 and running the .netUI. This would be the time to switch to a Windows server.

I would prefer a nice fast Linux cluster over winders though.:D

Kishor & Cecil,

Thanks for your replies ... great info.

I was thinking of moving from the Unix box for a few reasons - the box itself looks like it might fail at any moment, as well as making it easier to support. Also maybe it would be a step in the direction of version 2009 if we go there in future - maybe I'm making it more difficult rather than easier ??

Yes right now we are off QAD support - not sure what the history is but we're currently discussing going back on, as well as a few other options. Now though the system has customisations which have been completed by two other companies over the last years so its a bit of a support nightmare really.

Next week I'm back in India to review the options and speak with QAD, I'll see how that goes and then go from there.

Thanks again

Regards
Paul
