Occassionally I work on a large financial application developed in Progress with MS Windows-based clients. I always find myself asking "Why Progress?". I have much experience with Oracle and real sever-based SQL client-server systems. The Progress application I support can be a nightmare in distributed computing because the business rules execute locally on client PC's.
Have I been experiencing an unusual type of Progress application or is this the norm? What characteristics of the application or marketplace justify Progress over Oracle for NT or Linux?
I appreciate your thoughtful responses so I may gain insight into the appropriate application of Progress?
