[Stackoverflow] [Progress OpenEdge ABL] Can the OpenEdge pure Java JDBC drivers connect to Progress 9.1e databases?

I've been looking to get JDBC access to Progress 9.1, but the client access package doesn't include a pure java driver, and requires DLLs for Windows which are only available in 32bit.

I understand that the OpenEdge JDBC driver is a pure java driver, so should work in any JVM, but what I'm not clear on is whether this is backwardly compatible with Progress 9.1E databases?

Has anyone managed this, or am I stuck with the 32bit only versions?
