Hello,
I am having a hard time understanding what a shipper/pre-shipper is used for. What is it first of all. Next, what menu items does it relate to..

Thanks

Hello Nate

A quick shipper course.
The pre-shipper are meant for prepairing and executing your expedition process. It gives you the possibility to create automatically or manually picklist ( = pre-shipper ) and transform them into a packing-list ( = shipper ). ( 7.9.1 automatic , 7.9.2 workbench or 7.9.8 manually )

With this mechanism, the expedition data flow can be maintained on a different department than sales.

A (pre-)shipper consists of a main-level (pre-)shipper. Hereby the identifcation starts internally with a "p" or a "s" depending on the state.
This level is on sales-order ship-to level. This makes it possible to combine more than one sales order on 1 (pre-)shipper

Underneath you can couple directly one or more sales order lines.

When applicable you can build a structure made of containers. This is not a sea-container, but a box can contain one or more sales order lines.
You can put that one in another container or on a pallet.
This is internally "C" level.

(Pre-)shipper Structure looks like

(Pre-Shipper) - abs_id is s000001 / 100001
(Container) - abs_id is c70001 ( multiple levels )
(Item) - abs_id is i080001 ( sales order line )

The coupling of data is recursive via
- parent ( abs_id )
- child (abs_par_id = abs_id <higher level> & abs_shipfrom must be the same on both levels !!!! )

The number ranges must be first registered in 36.2.21. When necessary look in the field-help.

When displayed on screen or reports the first character of the id is removed.

Be aware that prepairing or creating a shipper does not automically issue stock. You have to use a separate transaction for this. When a pre-shipper is confirmed it will be transformed automatically into a shipper.

Finally a higher level is MBOL or master bill of lading. For certain purposes you can combine one or more shippers into a MBOL. For instance combine the shipper on one larger freight for a truck or boat.
- MBOL ( abs_id )
- shippers ( abs_master_id = abs_id <master level> )

In the manual you find a very minute description.
