prorest of a Solaris originned DB to AIX crashes AIX

we are trying to use prorest to restore a db that was on a Solaris system to an AIX system. For the first time in my long experience, we have finally found something that crashes AIX ! :-( Prorest runs for a while (very very slowly, which is weird as we have a fast SAN with double adaptors and lots of spindles) and then craps out at exactly the same point every time and then crashes the AIX machine; an unheard of feat of failure. The reason we need to do this is because we are migrating the system as company policy now proscribes AIX; can anyone tell us what obvious things we are missing?
thanks in advance for any advice!
KInd regards,
Teun

If you wants to move a database from an OS to another
OS .. use the "dump" and "load".
You can't restore an Progress Solaris database to an AIX Progress database.

PS:
Restore a backup with the same Progress version that you used to perform the backup.
