I don't understand this question. You'll have to provide a better explanation of what you want to know. Perhaps more than two sentences.
I am not quite sure what you mean but here is my shot
a "Project" can be a single program or a whole system. If it is going to be a very large system you may want to break the project up into multiple projects with logical breaks such as book-keeping, shop-floor etc ..., and then include them in a "master project"
if you want to "play around" you may create a project that has nothing to do with your System project and not include it with the systems project(s) This gives you the ability to create programs and look at the database, as long as you do not write to the DB you will not effect the production (or test, sandbox) environment.
