Hello,

Progress has made the OpenEdge Studio available for download and development use without the need for a license key. You just need a Progress ID to download. You can create one for free if you don’t already have one.

OpenEdge Classroom Edition

It is called “Classroom Edition”, but you don’t need to be a student to use it. The license allows for unlimited development use for a developer either independent or within an organization. The license is restricted against use for production deployment only.

It includes: Eclipse IDE (OpenEdge Studio), Personal RDBMS, Classic AppServer, Pacific AppServer, OE Explorer, Business Process Modeling Studio, BPM Server, GUI Controls.

This has been a long time that many people and I have been waiting for. This is ideal for developers that want to use OE at home, or work at places stuck on older versions or lack some of the included tools above.

Don't ever exptected this to come true. IMHO decades too late.

But, then again, it's never too late to change ...

Nothing says "Hey! Let's use this to build our startup!" like "Classroom Edition", login required, and (in my case at least) an 'Access Denied' message even after a valid login. Sigh.

Yep plenty of room for improvement. The getting started guide is eye-watering in its length and complexity. Why can't we have standard scripts to create a database and serve it so Joe Bloggs who doesn't know the first thing about DBA work can get a basic learning environment set up?
