What is open analytics? Embedded analytics? We answer this and show you how to implement a “Bring Your Own Analytics” strategy in our upcoming webinar.

With the deluge of customer requests for advanced analytics capabilities, Cloud ISVs are searching for the most efficient means to embed analytics into their applications. As IT and LoBs analysts become increasingly sophisticated, with standalone analytics tools, how can they continue to drive deeper insights and connect to more powerful data sources? Capitalizing on this ever-evolving $16bn market requires frictionless integration through “embedded analytics” or “open analytics.”

What Is Embedded Analytics?

Our friends at Gartner define embedded analytics as, “the use of reporting and analytic capabilities in transactional business applications.” Although it can exist outside the application, embedded analytics must always be accessible from inside an application, without making the user switch between systems. Some common examples of embedded analytics are dashboards, data visualizations, benchmarking, visual workflows and self-service analytics.

What Is Open Analytics?

Open Analytics is the democratization of data sources via standard interfaces to external analytics and data management applications. For example, let’s suppose you have a cloud hosted database and you need to expose your data for data visualization using Tableau or Qlik. ISVs are increasingly deploying standard REST (OData) or SQL (ODBC or JDBC) data access layers for their cloud data. This makes their data accessible to more analytics professionals such as business analysts, data engineers and data scientists.

Embedded analytics will provide insight for common and predictable use cases, while open analytics provides flexibility for advanced analytics and data visualization not delivered by the cloud.
