With the free Progress OpenEdge Learning Path and Certification training, Sinan Karer was able to land an internship with a company that uses and relies on Progress OpenEdge every day.

With a background in C#, JavaScript, TypeScript and SQL, Sinan has always found programming and computers exciting. As a young developer who wanted to grow these skills, he looked for an opportunity to launch him to the next level in his career. He found an opportunity in BDC, an OpenEdge application partner with a general ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) application with resources in Belgium and Bulgaria. But to officially land the internship, he needed to know everything about OpenEdge.

Peter Kiss, CEO of BDC, advised Sinan to take the free OpenEdge training so that when Sinan joined as an intern, he would already be up to speed on OpenEdge. This enabled Peter to spend a short amount of time training Sinan during the internship, ultimately saving time and allowing Sinan to jump in and be as productive as possible.

What Training Did Sinan Take?

Sinan joined the Basic OpenEdge Developer Learning Path and Certification. This content assists experienced and novice developers in starting or expanding their OpenEdge Developer skills.

Because the basic syntax between SQL and OpenEdge is the same, Sinan was able to learn and understand OpenEdge quickly. He quickly learned OpenEdge through courses like "Introduction to Progress OpenEdge" and "ABL (Advanced Business Language) Fundamentals." Sinan completed the program in three weeks and did so totally on his own without any help or supervision.

Sinan’s Training Experience

When asked if he would recommend taking the course, Sinan says, "I would recommend the course because you learn so much and can become a productive Progress OpenEdge developer in a short amount of time."

The top three things he likes most about the Progress training are:

  • The guided exercises
  • The exams
  • The specific syntax

Would Sinan Recommend OpenEdge?

When asked if he would recommend building an application in Progress OpenEdge, Sinan says, "If you are building a business application, I will definitely recommend OpenEdge."

Sinan was able to advance in his internship because of the training he received, which improved both his performance in his new role and his understanding of ABL. Sinan’s future goal is to work as a Progress OpenEdge developer, building and creating an essential and complex program for businesses that need them.
