In the latest release of Hybrid Data Pipeline, you can now Get OData-based REST API for any database with a JDBC driver. Join our beta to see how it works today.

DataDirect Hybrid Data Pipeline is a self-hostable hybrid connectivity solution that you can run in the cloud or on-premises. Data Pipeline can give you access to data sources through a standard interface—SQL (ODBC, JDBC) or REST (OData).

Generic JDBC Driver Plug-In

The latest version of Hybrid Data Pipeline adds a ground-breaking feature: the ability to connect to a JDBC-compliant relational database driver. This feature enables end users to plug-in JDBC drivers to Hybrid Data Pipeline’s server and access data using those drivers, alone or in combination with any other data sources supported by Hybrid Data Pipeline. This is currently a Beta feature available for testing within Hybrid Data Pipeline.

Using the JDBC driver plug-in, you can create an OData-based REST API endpoint for data exposed through the Hybrid Data Pipeline server. You even access this data via ODBC and JDBC over HTTP/HTTPS.

As you can see in the bottom right of the graphic (click to enlarge), we’ve added the capability to plug in an external JDBC driver to the Hybrid Data Pipeline server, which expands the number of sources available via the Hybrid Data Pipeline clients.

Why RESTify Your Data?

REST APIs allow you to continue leveraging existing investment in data storage, while securely opening that data to web and mobile apps without actually moving or copying the data. The HTML5, web or mobile applications can access the data in real-time via the REST APIs. But because every database REST API is different, you need OData.

OData is an open protocol to allow the creation and consumption of query-able and interoperable REST-ful APIs in a simple and standard way. While every database REST API is unique, OData is both an industry standard and an international standard, and is sometimes called “SQL for the web.”

Progress DataDirect delivers a single point of OData configuration for all data sources. With one interface, you can create OData endpoints to each of your data stores. Then, connect to those endpoints with your application.

Hybrid Data Pipeline Access to Teradata, OpenAccess JDBC, MySQL CE and More

We continue to expand Hybrid Data Pipeline’s data sources to cover the ever-growing demand to support new data sources. We work with 350+ technology partners around the globe and our connectivity is distributed in 8 of the top 9 Business Analytics platforms and 5 of the top 6 Data Integration Tools.

Based on specific customer requests, we’ve already begun testing and certifying relational JDBC connectors in Hybrid Data Pipeline including:

  • Teradata JDBC
  • OpenAccess JDBC
  • MySQL CE Open Source JDBC

We’re continuing to test additional JDBC connectors, and we’d love to hear from you if you have JDBC sources that you'd like to access with OData.

Let’s take a look at how to plug-in a generic JDBC driver to the Hybrid Data Pipeline server, and retrieve data from that source using the Hybrid Data Pipeline client.
