Client near DFW Airport is looking for a Sr. level Progress DBA that will serve as Technical lead in the database administration of various datastores (primarily Progress with some Sybase and SQL Server ) for Information Technology applications and ongoing strategic projects.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor degree in Computer Science required. (Note: directly related job experience and/or a related business degree can be substituted in lieu of this degree requirement.)
2. 10+ years working experience in information systems with 7+ years in relational database administration.
3. 5+ years experience administering Progress RDB. Sybase and/or Microsoft SQL Server are secondary DB that are in the environment that you might do some work with so working knowledge of all listed databases is preferred.
4. Working knowledge of Unix commands and scripting is required.
Day will be broken down accordingly:
1. Work with application development team to design database schemas to support application data access functions during the design, development and implementation of new applications. 15 % of time
2. Interact with applications group, technical support and operations to maintain existing applications. 15 % of time
3. Ensure database security and integrity is maintained at all times including multiple levels of redundancy and recovery points. 10 % of time
4. Perform assessment, monitoring, tuning, performance management, trending, load balancing, and capacity planning of the database environment. 10 % of time
5. Follow and refine change control procedures and policies related to the database environment. 10 % of time
6. Direct database architecture reviews and participate in code reviews with development teams providing insight for leveraging database capabilities. 10 % of time
7. Maintain knowledge base and update personnel on database-related technology development and direction. Interface with vendors for product information, maintenance, and the timely resolution of escalated problems
10 % of time
8. Lead process to refine and implement database construct standards across computing platforms, including naming conventions, performance metrics, patch management, backups, and tools. 10 % of time
9. Perform disaster recovery planning, implementation and testing. 10% of time
