See the bunker series on Dump and Load here: http://pugchallenge.org/downloads2016/231 - Bunker v6.pdf Our results showed it’s fastest to parallel dump, and to load with building indexes on the way in. YMMV for sure. The DBAs on my team are managing > 2,000 databases, so we dump and load basically every weekend. For the most part we do not need to do any acrobatics (parallel processes, etc) as the machines are fast enough to do the work in the allotted downtime. But on occasion we need to squeeze the square peg into the round hole. It’s good to know there are options. If you are really strapped for downtime, then Pro2 can help, see this presentation: http://pugchallenge.org/downloads2017/Platform and Data Migration With Little Downtime v2.pptx We are finding more and more people are interested the little down-time dump and loads. We talk to someone about once a month or so for the large customer that can’t tolerate more than 1 hour of downtime.
