It would depend on what "additional work" the aliased "rm" is made to do. (ie: copying and/or compressing the file before deleting it from the original location - still strange since the files are small, and why a different number of processes every time? ) . My feeling is that the "rm" being executed might not be the "out of the box" "rm".
