The ABL performance matters a lot. First people tend con compare languages based on the performance of simple constructs or algorithms, where ABL is currently at a (big) disadvantage. Then they choose to go with something else
It also matters in order to do things which do not involve the database, e.g. implement complex algorithms in pure ABL. It would allow to have more ABL libraries, without relying on external dll or .Net (not Unix friendly) and build a more comprehensive ecosystem.
