I misspoke regarding the duration of a pica queue lock. The duration of a pica queue lock is less than a microsecond. The mechanism is the same as with “spin” latches. My apologizes for any confusion. It’s not so much, in the customer’s case, that is it is waiting for the pica queue lock, it’s that it’s waiting for a free message entry on the queue. The APW is queuing messages faster than the repl server can read AI blocks and send them to the target. The repl server’s job can be affected by network bandwidth, the target server being less performant than the source server, and if the target is not tuned as well as the source. In any case, I would agree that the solution for the customer is to increase the pica queue size so that it is large enough to accommodate the highest level of transaction activity.
