We will probably have a session dedicated to reporting solutions at EMEA PUG Challenge this year so make sure you book your place - http://www.pugchallenge.eu This is what we know so far: - DataPA ( https://datapa.com ) - Cyberscience ( https://www.cyberscience.com ) - IAP Viper ( http://www.tools4progress.com/viper ) - Combit List & Labels ( https://www.combit.net & http://www.taste-consulting.de/openedgelistlabeldataprovider/ ) Progress Analytics 360 uses Logi Analytics for the reporting part ( http://www.logianalytics.com ) but that’s more a turn key solution for data warehouse with ETL, databases schema and predefined reports included. Other options in the SQL world: Crystal Reports, Business Objects, Tableau, YellowFin on commercial side and a bunch of Java based reporting engines on the open source side: Birt, Jasper Reports, Pentaho. MS$ solutions works with ODBC while Java based engines usually work with JDBC, Progress/Data Direct provides drivers for both ODBC/JDBC only those have to talk with the SQL engine not the regular 4GL database engine we use most of the time hence the pain with sql-width, update statistics… (shameless plug follow) Not a ms$ guy myself so can’t help on the ODBC side but for JDBC we have a full driver talking with the 4GL engine over the appserver, full crud data access with added benefit of being able to call business logic and pass back temp-table/dataset, full meta-data support so one can define views/stored procedures and implement those in good old 4GL - http://acorn.ro/products/abl-jdbc/ Marian Edu Acorn IT www.acorn-it.com www.akera.io +40 740 036 212
