I use the dd command as well on UNIX when I am told that it must be a Progress issues. The problem is the osync, dsync options are not available on all platforms, but proutil –C bigrow is. Me and my team have probably run the bigrow command on 500+ systems. Based on this experience, we know without looking much further when the disk is the bottleneck. My recommendation: A minimum of 10 MB/Second sequential write speed when measured using the bigrow command.
