One might note that the safe thing to do is never to write over and over again to the same backup file name. Even if you think you have a process which then copies that file somewhere else, if you are ever wrong that it got copied and your backup fails, then you have just destroyed your last backup. Write to a backup file name with a date-time stamp name and this issue will never arise.
