Products

Greetings Talkers,
I am MFG/PRO & eB/2 experienced / skilled. I wish to appreciate more Progress products. How would I go about getting into for example,
Radius Solution's Pecas Vision
Foresight's MXP
NxTrend's Trend
Starbase's Roundtable
Symix Syteline
Are there demo-disks of these products available? and if so where, how do I get hold of a copy?
Thank you.
Regards

AFAIK Symix Syteline (the latest/newest versions) is no longer a Progress application. The thing has been converted to VB or something like that. They probably still support the Progress app, but I think that there will be no new development for it.

For all the others, well, just Google the company websites and throw them an email...

I think your time would be better spent improving your knowledge of Progress technologies (ADM2, Webspeed, Appserver), and the major players of the OS you use (eg. Microsoft .Net).

The problem with the applications you mention is that they are rather obscure, and will not improve your saleability as much as more general products.

Progress is niche enough, no?

Thanks for the response. I used to specialise in ADM(1) when I used V8 GUI, now I am onto Progress OpenEdge 10, how can I specialise in ADM2?? Thank you. Are their any organisations in the Derby UK region who may be able to help?
Thank you.

be willing to learn and don't be so defensive ;)
for the most part all you have to do is read the docs !

if you've got any questions i for one will be glad to help
where every i can

i've been working on adm and dynamics for quite sometime now
well, good luck

I am still learning ADM2 (as you will notice from my occasional ill-informed post). I have the benefit of pre-existing code and a mentor to learn from here. If you do not have that kind of environment, I would suggest copying standard (non Progress) applications downloadable from the Net. There are also source sites which will give you clues to how they work - it will then be up to you to implement the functionality using Progress. Practice makes perfect. Decide on a project, then create a schedule and stick to it.

Then there's always the docs, ProgressTalk and the Peg.

For contacts in the UK, try the Progress website vendor search with sales offices in the uk. There are a few (not many) in your (Midlands, S. Yorkshire) region. Also try PUG UK - they may be able to help you further. It may also be worthwhile getting in touch with a couple of agents, and asking them if they can put you in touch with programmers in your area. This may be an unlikely option, but it's worth a try.

Finally, as Progress is such a niche, look at moving somewhere closer to the action (Yorkshire/London).

Yorkshire

Somewhere closer to the action, Yorkshire / London. Obv London is, though Yorkshire, ehh??? Head Scratching time.

I have been out of the Progress fulltime arena for a short while now. I were really up to speed on the now redundant ADM(1), for which I am trying to get a **handle** on ADM 2. I am keen to appreciate as many areas as possible, and I have never tasted Dynamics hands-on. I wish to learn / appreciate as much as possible. What exactly is (Data) Dynamics, and how does it fit in?? With the whole new Progress OpenEdge product?
TIA
