The ubroker processes don't ever provide any useful information about failures on the command line. You have to look in the logs.

BTW -- you've heard it a million times already but the needful thing to do is to get upgraded to a modern and supported version of Progress.

"Do the needful" is an expression which means "do that which is needed", with the respectful implication that the other party is trusted to understand what needs doing without being given detailed instruction.

You give me too much credit. I do not know what needs doing beyond the excruciatingly obvious fact that you badly need to upgrade to a supported version of Progress. Your company's data is at risk. You have an obligation to make that clear to management.

You have not provided any error messages or other useful information that would indicate what it is that needs doing with respect to your problem starting webspeed.

That is why I instructed you to review the log files.

If you do not know where your log files are type "proenv" at the command line. This will give you a shell that has $WRKDIR defined. Type "cd $WRKDIR" and you will be in the directory that has your log files. (Unless someone has changed the log locations by fooling around in $DLC/properties.) If you type "ls -ltr *.log" you will get a list of log files and should be able to easily confirm that they are being written to with more or less current time stamps. You should then review those logs for errors that correspond with your attempts to start webspeed. Once you have some actual errors to investigate then you can either look them up in the kbase or post them here and perhaps someone will look them up for you.

As far as I can tell the host name "hultestdr" can not be resolved. That is an operating system / network issue. Either your hosts file is corrupt or your DNS does not serve you well.

Spot on RHD.
Once again, Mike, you really need to invest in some proper training. This is an error you should be able to spot and solve easily. The log files should be your first port of call when things go wrong. An error like this requires a quick Google and you're away. As it is you've wasted a whole weekend waiting for answers to a simple problem.

This is your problem. Something is pointing at hultestdr as a port, but the port is not being resolved from the name. So either you HOSTS file is broken, or your DNS is broken.

  1. Can you ping the IP address which is referred to in the /etc/hosts file?
  2. Or, on a hunch, there must be a linefeed after the last entry in the /etc/hosts file - is it? As far as I know this is true for other files which are located in /etc.
Since you don't seem to have much know how in general operating system or networking topics I can only advise you to get in touch with your system or network administrator to solve the issue - have the host name resolved correctly. This has nothing to do with Progress - it is a operating system or network issue.

Heavy Regards, RealHeavyDude.
