-noshm startup parameter?

In the notes section of the documentation (Version 8.3 Dynatext format) for the PROBKUP utility, I ran across a reference to this parameter. The context:
You cannot perform an on-line backup on:
- A system running in single-user mode
- A system without shared memory
- A database that was started with the No Shared Memory (-noshm) parameter

It doesn't really work and there's no mention of -noshm on the Knowledgebase.

Anyone else know anything further on this?
