Need Pros and Cons of SQL vs Progress

The company I work for is at a crossroads. We have been using progress for over 10 years, but currently due to a recent management change we might be switching over to a different DB and a different query language. I was wondering if anyone could give me the pros and cons of switching. So I can give management the best picture they can get.

progress vs what ? sql is everything else, almost

progress is not just the database and a query language its more or aims to
be or was ... kind of a complete platform

specific to this niche, of course its not a general purpose language


are you just tired of progress or are there some more specific plans ?
are you planning to go with java and oracle, .net and sql server etc.

the big ones are rewrite, lots of training, oh licenses. almost like starting over


and btw whats your setup. not just version, web/gui/char app etc.

out of interest, are there some specific issues ?

but then again, my local distributor is mostly a .net shop nowadays
