Can We increase any startup parameter when database in up state.

like can we increase -n or other parameter when database in up state.

I heard about proquiet .

What proquiet to exactly?

The answer depends on version so the first thing you need is to tell us what that is. As time has gone on, more and more things have been available for dynamic setting. Some have qualifications. Proquiet does what it sounds like, i.e., puts the DB in a quiet state where there is nothing going on, but with the server still running.

For changing parameters at runtime look up proutil increaseto in the docs. For proquiet look up proquiet in the docs.

Along with "increaseto" you can also perform a lot of other admin activities while the db is online, backups, adding extents, index compaction, schema changes...

Some of these have caveats and restrictions. And the details vary by Progress release.
