Need help setting up a 2nd Site in Mfg/Pro - Please.

We have been using Mfg/Pro for at least 8 years and are on release 8.5g.
We have always operated as a single Site. We would like to look at
setting up a second Site and have one Site for Manufacturing and one for
Distribution.

I've exhausted the QAD Website trying to get information about setting up a
second Site. I know how to create one. I need to find out what the setup
alternatives or options are, how to manufacture in one Site and distribute
from another. Can it be the same Entity? Can the sites share the same
inventory? What are the Accounting considerations?...etc.

Please share your experience with me.

Sincerely,

Two site can have the same entity. However, costs must be manually
maintained in the 2nd site, distributed goods or not.

Maryann,

We are right now in the process of setting up a second site for
SOMI (supplier owned and managed inventory). It's a simple site,
uncosted, and doing little more than keeping track of inventory; so we
haven't had to worry about too many details. I won't be much help to
you here.

One thing we did have to worry about: custom programming that we
had done that did not include site in the DB queries. We are going
back right now and fixing this. A lot of grunt work. Luckily, we
have been using Mfg/Pro for only a year. Just a thought, in case you
have this problem, as well.

Hi, Maryann.

Hope you are having a great day.

My first question is: why?

Is there a real value to the business to create and maintain a second site?
Do you really need a different cost structure and/or need to report
activities to a different Entity? If these are all "no", I struggle to see
the need for another site.

Setting up another Site will require you to maintain Item/Site records for
every part that you want to handle in the new site. If you have 20,000
items, this potentially means another 20,000 item/site records with cost
management, possible price list management, possible BOM and Routing
management, Inventory Management challenges, and so on.

If I could understand why the business thinks it needs another site, I (and
others on this distribution, I am sure!) will be better able to share
approporiate insight.

Cheers!

Inventory and cost details are maintained by site. So Inventory cannot be shared between sites. If You make the item in one site then you have to do inventory transfer to the other site to make it available for distribution. You have to do cost rollup on one site and copy the cost to the other site. Also MRP is run by site.
I have little knowledge about DRP items which I think is inter site
Inventory transfer.
