Need Communication b/w WebServer & DB

Dear Friends,
Can u please help me here,

Client: (IP-1, Java Application, EmpCode).
Webserver: (IP-2, JavaApplication, TomCat Appch WebServer, Ready to get Request “EmpCode” from IP-1).
DataBase: (IP-3, Progress9.1D, Appserver Configuration to Connect DB in N-tier Architecture).
There is a .p file to get related information against “EmpCode” and to make the Report in XML file.
Situation of the Problem is that, I would need a communicator (Event) between WebServer and DataBase.

There are a zillion or so ways to do this. Progress' Webspeed product is one fairly obvious approach...

Or you could use something like ProJAX
