Help needed to restore Data

Hi Everyone

We have a unique situation.

Our client's server crashed and we lost the diskdrives. We do have progress backups but the problem is how to restore. The version of progress is 9.1D.

The operating system is digital unix V4.0E Alpha 64 bit, and the client does not have the original cds. ALthough our client does have a licence, HP cannot help because the cds are not available.

My questions are :-

- Can we install a newer version of digital unix and will we be able to restore the database?

- Does anyone have a copy of Digital unix V4.0E? The client does have a licence.

- Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

Martin

Later versions of UNIX are probably ok so long as they are relatively close to the version that you were using.

Digital unix has a new name.
Try asking HP about Tru64 unix 4.0F , making it clear which DEC Alpha server model, the media type required, and which unix licence codes you have.

The kernel tuning for Progress 9 should be similar to the older unix.

I'd be looking for someone who might be willing to loan you some time on a running Alpha server so that you could restore your backup, and dump the data.

Then I'd re-load it on a supported platform using a supported release of Progress.

Those Alpha boxes were great back when they were new but Moore's Law left them in the dust a long time ago.

I was able to obtain the cds for tru64 V4.0f. Got it installed.

Now I am trying to install progress 9.0D.

I get the following error
/cdrom/91dtru64/_ovrly: /sbin/loader: Error: Unresolved symbol in /cdrom/91dtru64/_ovrly: __cxx_call_static_dtors

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Martin
