Has anyone managed to Load Progress 9.1d on VISTA64

Hi... I am building an additional machine for development and decided to try Vista 64 for a head start on client migration.

I have tried to load Progress 9.1D on Vista 64 and it keeps stopping me saying the process _isdel.exe is being used by some other process. I noticed another thread re Server 2003 64 bit with same problem, but have not narrowed down the process yes to get by the error.

Any one with success with this?

I hate to have to make a dual boot and put back the old OS.

Thanks for reply but that was the first place I looked...

Unfortunately I could not find "Application Experience Lookup Service" on VISTA 64..

I did some experimenting on services similar but so far no luck.

I wondering if anyone actually has accomplished this install on Vista 64 and what specific service(s) they had to disable.

I was planning to do further experiments but my new Motherboard -- BIOS died after 3 days (RIP) and running to get RMA done before I start again. Thanks goodness I was creating this new system in parallel with my production environment so still in business.

FYI:

I gave up trying to load Progress 9.1d directly onto Vista 64. I will try later when I have more time. However, I downloaded Microsoft's FREE Virtual PC 2007 and installed that on VISTA 64.

Once installed, I installed Windows XP in a virtual machine on VISTA 64 and so far evrything works fine.

I loaded Progress 9.1D, my various applications written for Porgress that I support for a variety of customers and so far it is an excellent environment to support my clients. Meanwhile, I can utilize VISTA 64 for new stuff and run with 8GB of memory.

Excellent product that Virtual PC.

KB 109986:

Status: Verified
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition
Progress 9.1D
SYMPTOM(s):
Installing Progress getting busy error on file _isdel.exe.
When task manager is checked for processes, _isdel.exe is not active.
Windows 2003 platform is a 64 bit.
CAUSE:
9.1D is not supported on the Windows 64 bit platform.
FIX:
1. Downgrade the server to a supported 32 bit version of Windows
2. Upgrade to 9.1E
3. Upgrade to OpenEdge Release 10.x

So it doesn't seem possible with 64-bit platform...

But you already found a way to solve it by using option 1 :-)

Casper.

i have loaded 9.1E on a Vista 64 bit machine. Open your task manager then start the install as soon as the process for isdel.exe starts kill the process then continue to install progress. everything seem to work fine.

I`ve done the same on Progress 9.1D. Just kill the ISDEL once install is started. X64 gives a major Performance benefiteven on 9.1D ! But ofcourse you SHOULD update! ;)
