Find if the column.field exists in a table

please help me validate if a field / column exists in the table. Thank u in advance

thanks for the fix.. but if am gonna look for a table in different database, then hw can i include them?

if you know the database names, then you would prefix the _file with the databasename .
find <dbname>._file no-lock where <dbname>._file._file-name = "customer" no-error.
