Question Database shifting

I'll move this to the relevant forum, but you'll need to provide a bit more info as to your requirements.
Is this a replica of the existing database? Or do you want to move production from A to B without a shutdown? What is the purpose for the shift? What version of Progress are you on? What OS and Filesystem do your 2 servers have.

1) Its a progress version 9.1e, service pack xp3
2) OS version is window xp 2003
3) I want to shift live database from existing server to another server without shutdown the DB. I would know to process. how can we move.

I'll let others with greater experience wade in, but to me it sounds like you are making yourself a lot of pain.
For starters you will want to upgrade to a supported version of Progress (best bet would be 11.2).

You cannot.

You could use something like "vmotion" if you're in a VMWare environment but the database itself has no such feature.

The database does have a replication feature but transition is not seamless. And it isn't much fun to use with v9.

Version 9 is also ancient, obsolete and unsupported. You should upgrade.
