Job Description:
* Support all Progress RDBMS databases including development,
training, and production environments.
* Informational resource for database design and utilization
best practices.
* Perform database maintenance including migration, reorganization,
expansion, and integrity validation.
* Perform operating system level patching of database components
as necessary.
* Perform and maintain database recovery procedures and processes.
* Provide database operational metrics and capacity planning.
* Assist in development and maintenance of corporate IT disaster
recovery planning.
* Utilize and adhere to current best practices and standards of
database administration.
* Support and maintain change management procedures for standard
Trend and SBS application Progress 4GL code for all systems
and environments.
* Understand clearly the relationship between Trend and the
underlying Progress RDBMS databases.
* Provide regular updates to Manager on all projects and tasks.
* Develop and maintain a productive working relationship with
personnel across several departments.
* Review policies, procedures, and documentation and assure they
are complete and acceptable and in accordance with standards.
* Provide documentation, adhering to and developing new standards,
utilizing company Intranet.
* Perform duties when and as needed, providing coverage for 24x7
operation.
* Reports to Senior System Administrator.
Job Requirements:
* Minimum 5 years experience of general relational database
administration.
* Minimum 3 years experience of Progress RDBMS v7.x, v8.x, or v9.x
administration.
* General UNIX knowledge required with HP-UX exposure preferred.
* General knowledge of server hardware.
* Support experience with large systems and large user installation
base.
* General working knowledge of networks.
* MS Windows environment experience with application exposure to MS
Project, Visio, and Excel.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Must have the ability to work well with people from many different
disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience. Demonstrate
ability to handle multiple simultaneous projects.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* 4 year degree in computer-related field or equivalent experience
