Container Items

Good day.

The documentation does not say you can, and we are going to try it
anyway....

Has anyone ever defined a product structure for a Container Item (re:
Shippers) maybe even defining the Item with Pur/Mfg type of "C"

--- so that inventories of Container Items are "shipped out" of inventory,
also relieving inventories of packaging Items that are defined as part of
the Container Item via a Product Structure?

Sounds good, doesn't it?

Thanks in advance,

Tony

Tony,

The inventory of Containers are issued upon Pre-Shipper/Shipper Confirm, if
they have an GL standard cost. The issue transaction is an ISS-UNP.

You can of course make the container a component of the product structure,
but you then will have to issue the container upon manufacturing of the
product.

Yeah, you can make the container a component of a configured item and issue
it upon shipment or for the final assembly work order, but setting up all
your products as configured items, just to be able to issue the container
item is not so efficient, or is it. But yes, it can work.

The real issue here could be that you want to trace the container items
issued for a certain sales order or shipper. I believe the shipper number is
referenced in the ISS-UNP transaction.
