backup times improved

Hi,

Just an overview of what we saw in the last couple of days.
Environment. Unix AIX 5.2 and Progress 9.1D07

We have 8 databases, sizes are 110GB, 55GB, 40GB, 40GB, 20GB, 15GB, 5GB and 2GB. We back them up using probkup online with compress option in 8 parallel sessions (after disconnecting all users before we backup and have the appserver and webspeed brokers down during the backup).

The backup times have been 1hour 40 minutes. This last weekend, we dropped the unix mounts of the database volumes, reformatted them, mounted them back and restored the db. Now the backup times are around 1hour. (so we gained 40 minutes).

We also restructured 2 database variable extents (the last one) which had grown to 20GB down to 1GBs

Would this reduced time be cause of defragmentation. or would the reorg extents have any effect on it. ??
