Position Summary
Primary responsibilities include requirements gathering, analyzing, designing, implementing, integrating, deploying, troubleshooting, and supporting a variety of application systems for both internal and external clients and customers, utilizing multiple tools and techniques. Projects include new development as well as enhancing, maintaining, and supporting existing mission-critical systems.
Position Requirements
- Gather requirements from company leadership and end-users
- Research and evaluate business and technical issues
- Evaluate available alternatives and recommend appropriate solutions
- Design and implement efficient and cost-effective solutions for business requirements
- Develop, enhance and maintain one or more business applications
- Plan and perform comprehensive testing of system modifications
- Provide both technical and non-technical system documentation
- Provide technical support to both internal and external customers
- Perform system and database administration tasks as needed
- Communicate effectively with leadership, team-members, clients and customers
- Mentor and cross-train team-members to ensure high-quality service and support
- Participate in reviewing work of other team-members
- Evaluate and stay abreast of emerging and changing tools and technologies
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Strong analytical skills, both business and technical
- Strong knowledge of relational database concepts
- Proficiency in two or more languages, such as Progress, C++, Java, Visual Basic (Progress preferred)
- Experience with client/server application development
- Working knowledge of web development tools and techniques (such as Webspeed, html, java scripting, AJAX)
- Experience in insurance or financial services application development (preferred)
- Minimum 3 years of business software development experience
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related discipline (relevant experience in addition to 3-year minimum requirement may satisfy education requirement)
- Willingness to work additional hours when necessary
- Ability to prioritize work and to successfully meet deadlines
- Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical & non-technical individuals, both written and oral
- Ability to be self-motivated, to take initiative, and to work independently
- Ability to work frequently and effectively with team members
- Ability to learn new languages, environments, concepts, and techniques as needed on the job
