32-bit Progress retired

Hello!
We have a 32-bit OS. We are going to upgrade our 9.1D to OE on this OS. In 2011, we plan on replacing our servers and upgrading to 64-bit.

I am curious. Is there are point where Progress OpenEdge will not be supported on a 32-bit OS? When would that be?

If you are in 9.1D , you are 5-6 years ago. In 2011 you'll be 8-9 years ago.
Progress follow step by step the IT world evolution.

Yesterday : windows 3.1, 16 bit

The present is : Linux, 32/64 bit, OE 10.2x, ipv4 ... (allmost laptops have a CPU 64 bit)

In 2011, are will be in a IPv6, Google Android OS, 128 bit, who can say ?
Progress follow IT world evolution -> you follow Progress -> OK

anyway Progress 32 bit support will retired when 99% of PC world-wide go to the "Trash"

Look to server side products moving to 64 bit only before the client side does ... but don't hold your breath on that either. People don't necessarily want to buy a new server just because they are upgrading their Progress version, so anyone with a 32 bit server would be pretty annoyed if there was no 32 bit option. I suppose it will happen, but I wouldn't do any planning based on it yet. If you are going for a new server, chances are you would go 64 bit anyway, so no problem.

The client side will go a lot longer because people have been resisting even upgrading the OS ... they are hardly going to want to change hundreds of PCs. Besides, the big advantage for 64 bit is server side.
