Answered Regression to November???

I still have everything in the original vBulletin database. When I did the import it picked up all of the posts prior to our conversion to vBulletin Connect 5 which was in November.

I will put up a copy of the database (read-only) so it is available for viewing. Also, I will get all of the November through March posts converted into here as soon as possible, as soon as someone has a converter written. I'll write the converter myself if I need to, it shouldn't be too difficult.

All of the users and forums as of yesterday were converted. Also, I will put in place some scripts and URL rewrite rules in order to keep all external links, like those from Google, working. All of the threads/posts here have the same ID numbers assigned to them.

Yes, I've been using it quite a bit these last few days, and really like its ease of use and speed, while still giving all of the basic features that you would expect to have.

This is so much better. Many thanks for the move Chris. Here's hoping it helps to revive the community.

Maybe it's worth sending out a message to all members to inform them of the move so that anyone who has vowed not to come back gives it another chance?

No problem at all, and I'm sorry about leaping too quickly onto the runaway vBulletin 5 Connect train there. I'm hoping the new features will make the forums more useful as well.

I am planning on sending out an email newsletter to all of the registered users here to let them know about the change and to welcome them to come back and check it out. Will probably do this after the Easter holiday.

One thing I just noticed: a link to an old article in Google's cache doesn't work. So I guess it's the old thread/post URL format is not the same as the new? Google will eventually crawl the site again so that's a short-term problem however anyone who externally linked to our posts, and any PT posts that link to other posts, will have broken links. :(

I am working on correcting this, I just need to find the correct .htaccess rewrite rules. All of the thread/post ID numbers are the same, so those old URLs can be setup with a 301 redirect on them.

Since I am running Google AdSense here, most of our pages with the new URLs have already been indexed in Google again.

Still working on getting the old vBulletin software up and running with the old database, am running into issues with that right now.

How's it going? Is that pesky "real job" getting in the way? ;)

FWIW -- I think getting the missing threads merged back in is important -- it sort of sucks the wind out of things when a big body of work like that gets lost. As it is a lot of momentum seems to have been lost.

Unfortunately yes, the "real job" thing takes up too much of my time ;) And I often find the wifey and children take up most of the "free" time I have.

I have an idea about the missing threads that might enable me to get them imported sooner, I'll give it a try.
