Which patch should I use?

Hi folks!

I am little bit confused about patch

My System outline is like :
AIX 4.3.3
Progress 9.1B

I try to user patch version 9.1C16.
I don't know it is okay to use patch 9.1C16.

Any help is welcome.

P.S> I also need how to patch. Is it okay just to overwrite
old file and add new file in appropriate directory.
Let me know whether I am right or not.

You MUST use the patch for the version you are using. If you have 9.1B installed then you must use 9.1B patches not 9.1C patches.

Hi,

If you are on 9.1B I would not install a patch for 9.1C.... although what you are saying MAY potentially work, the procedure should be upgrade to 9.1C first (so pay Progress some money for new media etc) and THEN download/install the latest patch for your current Progress version (9.1C).

HOWEVER: Once a new patch is released it is wise to wait a little while (a week or 2 at least) to make sure the patch is OK.... Sometimes a patch is known to cause more grief than the problems it's supposed to solve (patches have sometimes been withdrawn shortly after release).
