QAD has an immediate opportunity for a Sr. Software Engineer - Databases. The position will be at QAD's corporate headquarters near Santa Barbara, California, and will support the R&D organization. The particulars are as follows:
Job Description:
An engineering role focused on data structures and database design as well as the ancillary work related to databases(dev systems, release, deployment, etc). One of the key duties will be to assist designers and developers on deriving the best data model and table design for their projects. Will also focus on the database as a whole, providing direction in regards to best physical structures, index usage analytics, storage area definition, and access for external query, BI and reporting applications. Ensure solutions do not affect ability to run on Oracle as well as to enhance the interoperability between Progress and Oracle.
Frequent areas of activity will be:
Data Modeling(logical) and Database Design(physical)
Participate in database change review
Database Standards(creation, maintenence, review)
Database tools
Progress Results QC file maintenance and generation
Index analytics, index reviews, usage and performance
Storage areas definition
Foreign Key introduction where appropriate
Relational/normalization where appropriate
Oracle dataserver and schema holder
Full, partial and incremental schema updates
Database performance and scalability
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, software engineering or computer science or equivalent work experience.
Special Knowledge & Skills:
Advanced technical knowledge in database development methodologies, design and implementation (Oracle and/or Progress) . Expert analytical and design skills across multiple products, both logical and physical. Advanced understanding of software tools, application services, databases, execution platforms and communications protocols required to build enterprise business applications. Excellent research, analysis, & project planning skills. Recognized reference and central point for technical issues as relates to database design, and in the development of enterprise software applications in particular. At least five years relevant experience in the above areas is required. Ability to work well in a heavily matrixed environment.
