Folks,

We are Tier 1 ERP Client in Distribution Industry on Win-NT and SQL-Server. We are evaluating Software Solution for our current and future needs. One of the Product is Infor which uses Progress. Other vendors on the short list are using SQL,Oracle, Informix etc. We would appreciate all help and education in understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the two. Within our IT Technical team, we have absolutely no expertise or knowledge on Progress. So any help is greatly appreciated in educating ourselves so that we can perform the evaluation effectively.

Our Users are used to the flexibility on various reporting solutions provided by our present system. We would like to know the limitations and educational/learnign challenges for abilities within Progress to be able to deliver the same.

You can send me any URLs or documents at dkpatelsbp@yahoo.com.

Thanks in advance.
:)

From a Progress database POV you can use any of the usual suspects to create SQL reports. Progress pushes Crystal. Or you can use the good old 4GL. Possibly in conjunction with source code or report templates provided by your application vendor.

The biggest issue is usually more a question of how "report friendly" the application design is. If the schema is really ugly and the documentation weak there aren't any end user tools that are going to magically solve that problem.

Also -- as I recall Infor used to have a relationship with Brio -- so that may be a useful option there.
