Re-Opening a Task

How can I re-open a task and its associated objects after the task has been completed?
I can reset the task back to WIP, but the objects under the task stay as Completed.
I have installed the Task Approval Utility, but this still does the same. I can reopen the task which sets the task back to WIP, but when I select an object to edit it comes up as read-only, and if I try to create a new version it tells me the previous change has not been approved.

Wendy-

When you check in an object, Roundtable creates all the new version records and stores the code changes in the repository at that time. I don't know of any way to change that object back to WIP without checking it out under a new task.
